Finally!
A book you and baby can BOTH enjoy!
Dark & Light is a beautiful love story personifying black and white. The illustrations are simple and engaging enough that young children want it read to them again and again. But unlike other more one-dimensional children’s stories, adults will find deeper layers of meaning with each re-reading.
In this first book, Dark meets Light. Light is strange and beautiful, which makes Dark afraid. Dark lashes out at first, but through the shared creation of things like the moon and lightning, they come to understand and even love each other. Before long, shades of gray are born, making one big happy family.
Books 2 and 3 are scheduled to be published in 2013.
All versions of the books in this series are not-for-profit. This is a labor of love by Shasta Kearns Moore who self-published through S. K. M. Publishing and all profits will go toward the medical needs of her son minus 10 percent that will be “paid forward” to others like him.
The board book version is available exclusively at DarkandLightBooks.com. It is a 16-page, 6-inch-by-6-inch board book printed in China on whiteboard that meets U.S. and E.U. safety standards. Learn more and order the board book at DarkandLightBooks.com.

Dark Light A Love Story in Black and White edition by Shasta Kearns Moore Children eBooks
Okay, make fun of me. "A mature head?" Like everyone who writes children's books should be older or something. Not. My point is simply, Shasta Kearns Moore's new book is a positive (and reliable) delight. I'm not a big fan of making up stuff, I mean stuff that has no link to real fact or real feelings. And much of the stuff kids read--my wife is the expert here, so I hope she'll tolerate my thoughts in this regard--is often nonsense well stated. "So this green creature lives in the woods, and he talks, right? And he needs to buy a new pair of shoes..." Whatever.Shasta's book takes an often talked about concept--light and dark, and you know there's light in the darkness and darkness in the light--and puts it in a way that kids and parents (even together) can enjoy. The result, well, it's not only a nicely shaped board book, or in this case a Kindle edition, is a fun way to learn something good about life's journey.
I like this book. (It's the second of Ms. Moore's books that I've read)--Hey Ms. Moore, you should be reading mine, right?--and it's a good tool to wisen your little wizard or wizardress. And no matter what perspective, or even religion, you practice in life, you'll find it a friendly and helpful read.
I had an opportunity to chat with the author about her book, wondering if she had given thought to the depth of what she was writing. (I've got a masters degree and a doctorate or so, so I'm thinking I've got something to say, right?) And it was clear from the outset that she didn't need anything from me. She already knew what she was writing about, having lived it. Duh. Who needs school for this stuff?
Shasta Kearns Moore writes a wonderful blog about living with children, both very special but one challenged in a very special way.
Both books, highly recommended.

Dark Light A Love Story in Black and White edition by Shasta Kearns Moore Children eBooks Reviews
This book is about learning to appreciate differences. It can help children become more aware of differences in things around them and can be a starting point for all kinds of discussions about tolerance of differences in people, caring, family, nature, etc. Every time I read it I am touched by the feeling it gives me. There is just something very special about it. I want to share it with all the kids and families I know.
Loved the concept; wish it was longer. Initiates the concept that in life, things aren't always black & white. I share the black & white books with new parents for their babies vision and brain development. Parents always report to me how much their babies loved the book as it kept their visual attention.
Dark & Light is a beautiful short story with simple, attention grabbing visuals in black & white which are greatly appealing to developing eyes and brains. And the proceeds go to help a wonderful family afford life enhancing treatments for their son.
